If you already use Jobber or Housecall Pro, use their built-in payment processing. The rates are competitive and the automation saves time. For in-person payments at the job site without a field service tool, Square is the most reliable standalone option.
What to Consider
Payment processing fees eat into every job. The difference between 2.5 percent and 3.0 percent does not sound like much. But on $500,000 in annual revenue, that is $2,500 extra per year. It adds up.
Beyond fees, consider where your customers pay. Do they pay at the job site with a card? Do they pay online from an invoice link? Do they need financing for large projects? The best processor depends on how your customers pay you.
1. Jobber Payments
If you use Jobber, its built-in payments are the simplest option. When you send an invoice, the client can pay online with one click. The payment auto-reconciles with the invoice. No manual bookkeeping. At 2.5 percent for in-person payments, the rate is competitive.
2. Housecall Pro Payments
Housecall Pro Payments works the same way as Jobber's. Invoices go out. Clients pay online. Payments reconcile automatically. The in-person rate is slightly lower at 2.49 percent.
3. Square
Square is the best standalone option for contractors who do not use Jobber or Housecall Pro. The card reader is free. You tap or swipe at the job site. The money hits your bank account in 1 to 2 days. No monthly fee. You only pay per transaction.
4. Stripe
Stripe is the most flexible option for online payments. It powers the payment processing behind many contractor tools. If you have a custom website or booking form, Stripe connects easily. The rate is higher than Square for in-person payments, so it is best for online-only.
5. QuickBooks Payments
If you use QuickBooks for accounting, QuickBooks Payments keeps everything in one place. Invoices, payments, and reconciliation all happen inside QuickBooks. The rate is higher than Jobber or Housecall Pro, but the convenience may be worth it.

Customer Financing Options
For large projects (roofing, HVAC installs, remodels), many homeowners need financing. Two platforms stand out:
Wisetack offers buy-now-pay-later financing that integrates with Jobber, Housecall Pro, and other field service tools. The homeowner applies during the appointment. Approval takes minutes. You get paid upfront. The homeowner pays over time. This can increase your close rate on big jobs.
GreenSky offers similar financing and integrates with Leap and other roofing sales tools. It is popular with home improvement contractors for projects over $5,000.
Both platforms charge the contractor a fee (typically 3 to 9 percent of the financed amount). Factor that into your pricing.
Use your field service tool's built-in payments if you can. Jobber and Housecall Pro have competitive rates and the auto-reconciliation saves hours of bookkeeping. If you do not use a field service tool, Square is the simplest standalone option with no monthly fee.
